Crazy hair day at school!

I shaved Austin's hair into a mohawk.  That was a bit of a challenge but it turned out pretty well.  Even Ezra participated.  I was at work, so dad gets to claim the handiwork with the colors.  Way to go dad!

Happy Birthday Tim!

My husband turned 40 last week!  Hard to believe.  We had a few good surprises cooked up for him though.  His best friend Jon, who lives in Omaha, flew out for 4 days.  I blindfolded Tim and drove to the airport and we picked up Jon.  Tim was totally surprised.  It was great fun.  Tim and Jon have kept their friendship going through the years.  They are more like brothers than friends.  We lived in the same town as Jon and his wife when we were married and even in the same neighborhood for a while.  It was great to have him out visiting, especially for Tim.  Although we have some great friends where we live, we don't have anyone we are friends with that we have a long history with.

We went straight from the airport to Camano Island to a zip line course.  None of us had ever tried this, but it was great fun, and adventurous!  There were 6 zip lines and 2 guides that went along with us and did all the hooking up and sending us off on each line and catching us on the other end.  It was BEAUTIFUL weather.  I could not have been more greatful for that.

Beautiful view of Mt. Baker off in the distance.

The scariest part of the whole thing for me was getting down at the end.  You had to be lowered on a rope through this hole in the platform and come down.  It wasn't too bad, but sitting down at the top through the hole and letting yourself fall back a bit did give me pause...

We also had a small party one night with friends from church and Tim's family.  I dressed the boys and cousin Levi up as "little old men" and sprayed their hair white.  They came down the stairs marching and singing "Happy Birthday".  Quite cute.

Tim and Jon and his brother Chris...

Unidentified Plant!

This post is mostly for my dad.  This plant was living in our front flower bed when we moved in to our house.  It has continued to thrive and spread.  It blooms May-July with these purple flowers.  I wish I knew what it was!  Anyone have any ideas?

Cute sayings

I don't want to forget the cute things that Ezra is still saying.  Being 4 he is really the only child young enough in our house to still come up with those cute little kid sayings.  If I don't blog about it, I'll forget it.  When he saw this book at the library he commented that "its just not fair...everyone gets to go to Hawaii except me...even Froggy!"

He also loves to play a game with me that I never win.  We call it "I'm thinking of a superhero".  It came out of the game I started which is "I'm thinking of an animal".  Its a game that used to get us through long car rides or kids fighting at the dinner table.  I would think of an animal and they would ask me questions until they guessed the animal and then whoever guessed it would have to come up with the next animal we would ask questions about.  So now Ezra does the same game with me except with characters like Spiderman, Dr. Strange, Mr. Fantastic, Bat Man etc.  I really do try to come up with good guesses and clues, but I'm pretty hopeless.  When its my turn to "think of" someone, its usually Wonder Woman!

Tigers!

We went to a Seattle Mariners vs. Detroit Tigers game at Safeco Field last Tuesday night.  It was not raining!  It was quite cold though.  I had worked that day and was a little rushed getting out the door and did not pack for the cold.  It was ok, though, as long as the wind held off.  We got to see the best Tigers pitcher, Justin Verlander.  It was the only game of the series that Detroit won.  It even was a little exciting as the Mariners almost came back and won it in the bottom of the 9th.  I was a little embarrassed at the snacks I brought.  There was a family with 3 boys in front of us (and their youngest was named Ezra, and they used to live in Michigan too!) but that mom was pulling out apple slices, carrot sticks, etc for her kids.  I, on the other hand, was pulling out doritos, candy corn and licorice.  I will blame it on being rushed to get out the door to the game.  One night of candy will not kill the children I hope.  I do have to say one of the best parts of the game for me was seeing all the Michgan people at the game.  There were almost as many Tigers fans as Mariners fans there.  It was almost like a little reunion of sorts!  Tim was very gracious to do this outing since I have turned our children into Tigers fans and he is still a Mariners fan.  This game was an early Mother's Day present to me!  It was a great time but it wiped us out for the rest of the week since we didn't get the kids home until midnight!

That is so gross!

We had a slug in our house this morning!  Eeeewwwww...  I have no idea how it got in.  I have to say, living in Washington, we don't have some of the "outdoor" worries people do in other areas of the country.  We never get blizzards, rarely get super hot weather, no tornadoes, thunderstorms, no exotic wildlife either really.  But we do have slugs.  Lots of them.  I usually don't worry about encountering dogs when I am out running but I often wonder how many slugs I have stepped on unknowingly.
